Edukasi Pembuatan Konsentrat Daun Sirih Hijau (Piper betle L.) Sebagai Bahan Antiseptik di Desa Tanjung Pering

Abstract

Green betel leaves  (Piper betle L.) have antiseptic properties, including for maintaining oral and dental health. The essential oils, sesquiterpenes, kavicol flavonoids, phenols, and saponins in green betel leaves exhibit antibacterial and antifungal activity. To empower the community to maintain health, especially for tooth and mouth, education betle leaves has been used as an antiseptic concentrate in Tanjung Pering Village. This activity was conducted through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and evaluations. During the activity, pre- and post-tests were administered. The activity results showed that the community generally knows that green betel can be used as an antiseptic. Still, it is typically used only by mothers after giving birth. The community has not used green betel leaf extract as a mouthwash. During the pre-test and post-test, the percentage of respondents who answered correctly increased from 58.5% to 81.5%. This activity has increased knowledge and community awareness of the use of green betel leaf extract as an antiseptic, particularly for teeth and the mouth.
